Summary | Secondary Objectives |
---|---|
Exercise that allows players to improve the technical skills of pass and oriented control |
Passing, Running with the ball, Oriented control, Oriented control moving towards the ball, Opening up oriented control, Closing oriented control, Oriented control with the outside of the foot, Dribbling with changes in direction, Short pass |
Create an equilateral triangle with sides of 10 meters/11 yards, using 3 cones (X, Y and Z). On the high vertex of the triangle create two 1-meter/yard goals on the right and left of cone X (The diamond). Players A, B and C start right next to cone X. Player A has the ball.
- Player A starts dribbling, goes through the goal and then continues towards cone Y
- Once A reaches cone Y, they change direction and drive the ball towards cone Z
- A passes the ball to B inside the "diamond": the ball must go through the goal
- B performs an oriented control inside the "diamond" and starts the exercise all over again following the same steps
- The drill is continuous during the series
- Alternate the starting direction between series
- Pass and oriented control must always be performed through the goals both to enter and to get out of the diamond
- Vary how players perform the ball control (e.g. using the outside of the foot, the inside of the foot, the thighs...)
- Vary the technical gesture for the change in direction (e.g. inside of the foot, outside of the foot, sole and so on)
- Pay attention to the distance and the direction of the supporting foot during the pass
- During the execution of the pass, players must close the gesture after hitting the ball by guiding the trajectory with the movement of the leg
- The ankle must remain rigid when hitting the ball, choosing the right point of impact over it
- In order to perform the oriented control, it is necessary to control the ball either with the inside or the outside of the foot, right after choosing the most appropriate direction towards which to start the action
- The movement of the player must be good enough as to fool the opponent
- The foot must be slightly relaxed
- Remind players that the movement of the body right after the oriented control must protect the ball from a possible opponent
