An exercise to train heading with different commands |
Passing, Coordination, Agility, Header, Pass |
For each training station place three markers in a row respectively with 3 and 5 meters distance between them; the second marker is 3 meters away from the first, the third is 5 meters away from the second. Between the first and second markers place a low hurdle. Place a pole to the side of the hurdle, about 1 and a half meters on the right or left. Arrange the players in pairs and place each pair on a training station. White players on the third marker have the ball in their hands. Red players go to the first marker without the ball. After each series the roles are reversed.
- Each time the coach calls out a different type of header
- Coach calls out Shoot: the player who receives the ball to the head runs around the pole (simulating to lose a marker) and heads with strength to score a goal
- Coach calls Pass: the player who receives the ball to the head jumps the hurdle and heads the ball to the hands of the server
- Coach calls Clear: the player who receives the ball to the head jumps the hurdle and heads "to clear" looking to head over the server
- White players pass with their hands to teir teammate (A and B), more or less next to the second marker
- A and B get nearer reading the ball trajectory (A jumps the hurdle and B runs around the pole) and hit the ball with the head according to the call of the coach
- White players take the ball with their hands while A and B go back to their starting place running backwards
- After each series the roles are reversed
- Increase the distance between the markers
- The player who throws the ball with the hands must receive the header with the feet
- Pay attention to header technique
- The exercise should be carried out properly with good coordination and speed
- Players throwing the ball with the hands must be careful to not cause difficulties to the header
- The exercise trains heading in various situations: offensive, defensive and passings
