Create four different playing areas plus a technical circuit to train passing ability. The areas are:
- Zone A: a 10x10 meters square on the left of the goal, right outside the penalty area;
- Zone B: a 10x10 meters square on the right of the goal, next to the halfway line;
- Zone C: a 10x15 meters rectangle just outside of the penalty area;
- Zone D: a 10x18 meters rectangle in front of the goal.
Next to the midfield area create a technical station with two cones and two markers (as shown in the picture).
Past zone B, towards the baseline, place five cones with 1 meter distance between them where players will perform a slalom. A final marker (red) indicates the striking point.
Train the ability to beat the opponent and face situations of 1 vs 1 or 1 vs 2 in order to improve both marking and unmarking skills and the positioning for recovering the ball. The exercise is also useful to understand and apply the topics related to fast passes and situations of "give and go" in order to shoot at goal.
The drill starts with two 2 vs 1 situations in zone A and B.
- G1, G2 (yellow vests) against R3 (red vest) in zone A
- R1, R2 (red vests) against G3 (yellow vest) in zone B
- In these two zones they play for ball possession, with R3 and G3 that can recover the ball only intercepting the pass
At the same time, white players B1, B2, B3 perform a continuous "give and go" between the cones, as shown in the picture.
- At the coach's signal, the white player who stands next to the cone (B2 in the example) will go to zone C to receive the pass from a red player of zone B (R2 in the example) and will be contrasted by a yellow player from zone A (G2 in the example). Zone C presents a situation of 1 vs 1
Therefore, after the coach's signal, we will have a situation of 1 vs 1 in zone C, and:
- a 1 vs 1 between G1 and R3 in zone A;
- a 2 vs 1 in zone B (R1 and R2 against G3), while white players B1 and B3 will keep on playing a "give and go" up to position 3 of the circuit: the player that receives the third pass will have to dribble towards the cone and start the exercise all over again.
At the coach's signal the second step begins: a red player from zone B (R2 in the example) must get out of the zone (after a triangulation with the teammate) to face a technical course (slalom) between the cones with the ball at their feet to then hit the ball (along the ground or in the air) from the red marker in zone D, where players B2 and G2 will face a new situation of 1 vs 1 to shoot at goal
Meanwhile, beyond the 1 vs 1 situation in zone D, there are other two situations of 1 vs 1: one in zone A (G1 against R3) and another one in zone B (R1 against G3).
- Once the exercise is done, players swap positions: yellow players will perform the "touch and go" and will be replaced in zones A and B by white players B1, B2, B3
- The circuit can also be performed by placing players with different vests inside each zone:
a. yellow, white and red in A;
b. yellow, white and red in B;
c. yellow, white and red between cones 1 and 2 for the "give and go".
At the coach's signal, one player for each color starts (e.g. a yellow one starts from the cones, a red one from zone A, a white one from zone B will assist the teammate and then will continue with the second step)
- Teach fast passes
- Help players get used to the technical movements combined with the technique
- Develop players' visual memory and quick reaction
- Improve the recovery of the ball during the defensive phase
- Teach players how to end the action with an assist
- Make sure that positioning, body posture and dribbling are performed well
