Setting up the tool is an essential step to take advantage of the full potential of YouCoachApp Video Analysis. By the end of this article you will know how to create a tagging project more effectively. Here are the steps to follow.
HOW TO CREATE A TAGGING PROJECT
- Log in to YouCoachApp Video Analysis and click on New Tagging Project.
You can choose between creating:
- a generic event
- a season event: in this case you can select whether it is a training session or a match and choose the specific event. In this case, the software retrieves all the metadata referring to that event that you have already entered (players, call-ups, own and opponents' lineups, etc.).
HOW TO UPLOAD A VIDEO AND SYNCHRONIZE IT
- Upload the video or drag it to the screen. You can upload a video of any size.
- Once the video has been uploaded, this project is visible to all staff members who have access to YCVA.
- If your video relates to a match event on YouCoachApp, you can synchronize the time of the video with the time of the match.
- Start the video and stop when the match starts.
- Click on the clock icon and confirm the specified minute by clicking on the green icon.
Let's move on to the tagging phase. Here is how the screen is organized.
- Videos uploaded in the tagging project. You can upload as many videos as you want, within the limits of your storage space
- Timeline for tagging
- Board with tags
- Tag details and recorded tag list
- Synchronized metadata from YouCoachApp: players, match events, training phases and drills
- Second screen
- Play the video, then stop it to record the moment, the action, the detail that you are interested in
At this point you may:
- Search for tags from the list and click
or - Use the boards and click on the tag - You can move from board to board to use other tags
or - Use keyboard shortcuts to tag
Each tag can be enriched with other information. From TAG you can add players involved, position of assist/shot, areas of the field affected by that tag.
You can always take action by making changes to your tags, shortcuts and boards: create new tags, create new categories, associate tags with categories or add or edit your boards, create new keyboard shortcuts for your tags. To make these changes:
- click on the dots of the Board panel;
- click Turn Editing On;
- make the changes you want (such as adding new tags, new keyboard shortcuts, new default tag settings);
- click on Turn Editing Off to save and return to tagging.
SECOND SCREEN: HOW TO DO VIDEO TAGGING WITH A SECOND SCREEN
If you have a second screen available, you can click on the button that allows you to play the video on a second display to gain space for your board panel and timeline.
The timeline is the tool that allows you to move within the video between the different tags and allows you to:
- use the typical functions of any traditional timeline: play, cut, increase playback speed, etc.
- move from tag to tag;
- browse the tracks you have set up to group similar tags together;
- increase or decrease the time frame with which the tag is associated: click on the tag in the timeline and increase or decrease the size;
- use the advanced features (we tell you about them below).
You can take action on the timeline with keyboard shortcuts that allow you to move easily throughout the video. Click on your profile name and click on HotKeys to discover them and start using them.
Advanced timeline features include:
- Synchronization of matches or practices created on YouCoachApp;
- Play tag clips button.
Let's see them in detail.
TIMELINE, ADVANCED FEATURES: PLAY TAG CLIPS BUTTON
The Play Tag Clips button starts the video by showing only the frames with which a tag is associated.
This feature allows you to retrieve all the data you have already registered in YouCoachApp with just one click.
Let's use an example: you recorded a match in YouCoachApp with a series of events and want to tag them in the video? From the Match Events tab, select the event and drag it to the timeline: all the metadata for that event will be automatically associated with the tag. For example, if you want to include a Goal event in the match and on YouCoachApp you have already entered all the associated details (minutes, author of the goal, author of the assist), then the goal tag will automatically be populated with all that information.
If instead of a match you are tagging a practice, the tab will report the structure of the practice, and in this way you can tag an entire phase or drill.
Please note: for events to be synchronized correctly, the related tags must exist. For example, if you want to put a “Yellow Card” event in the timeline but there is no tag with a specific preset, you will not be able to drag it to the timeline.
With the TAGS LIST side tab, you can browse the list of tags you have already recorded by scrolling through them one by one or by using keyword search. Click on the tag, then link directly to that moment on the timeline.
