The exercise takes place in a regulatory half of the field. Set up two poles (red in the picture) in front of the penalty area (about 5 meters/yards outside the area and at a distance of 10 meters/11 yards from each other) and place two markers near the midfield circle to mark the starting points of the G1 and G2 rows of players. Place one marker near the midfield line, on both sides, to mark the start of the rows of players at the G3 positions on the right and G3 on the left. Place five poles on the left band and five on the right band about 1 meter apart to create the slalom course. Players work in groups of three and switch roles and positions continuously at the end of each offensive development. A goalkeeper defends the goal. One player or the coach can actively participate in the exercise as a support player for a direct shot on goal (coach in the picture).
Three players work with two balls at the same time. Players in position G1, G2 and G3 start the exercise at the same time:
- G2 kicks the ball in front of them, slightly diagonally, on their running space (1a); immediately G1 passes their ball to G2 (1b) while G3 sprints to run the slalom course between the posts (1c)
- G2 returns the ball to G1 with a vertical pass and accelerates to retrieve their own previously kicked ball in a half-circle motion in the space
- G2, once recovered the ball, passes it to the coach (or teammate) positioned between the red posts (3a), who returns the ball to them on the shooting space, while G1 serves with a long lateral throw (3b) to teammate G3
- G2 sprints and shoots at the goal (4a)
- After G2 has shot and G1 has made the throw, the two players sprint behind the posts to go and receive G3's cross and finish on goal
- G3 receives the throw, carries the ball a few meters toward the back line (4b) and cross passes to the middle (5) to serve G1 or G2, who finishes on goal (6)
The exercise should be performed on both sides of the field. It can be performed alternately on the left and right or for a certain number of repetitions on one side of the field and then for a certain number of repetitions on the other side of the field.
Example with cross pass from the left
- The slalom of G3 players can be performed with the ball, which they will leave at the end of the row of poles, before receiving the throw of G1
- Correct power and accuracy of passes
- Maintain harmony and rhythm in movements
- Maintain accuracy in throws and crosses
- Synchronism and timing in moving into spaces and attacking the box for finishing
- Use both feet to pass and shoot
- When attacking the area for finishing, occupy both the first and second post areas
- Stop the exercise and correct errors if necessary
