Organization
Arrange, with markers, a playing area of about 15x20 yards
Place 4 players just aside the poles of the two goals, as illustrated (regolatory or smaller goals can do)
This drill can be done with or without goal keepers.
Players play and compete in couples.
Description
- A couple stands in the central zone of the court, for more players stand on the goal line, as illustrated
- Players throwing the ball in the middle (in green) keep one ball each. Of the couple in the middle, one is attacking, one is defending.
- When the drill starts, the striker can move to receive the ball from the 4 players chosing the sequence he prefers
- Players who cross the ball must serve a good ball for the striker to be headed
- The striker must try and score every ball
- Target of the defenders is to mark the striker and to anticipate the movements he will make to get away from them and hit the ball
- The striker, through rapid movements and continuous direction changes, will try to hot the ball first
Rules
- The striker has 4 chances to score
- After 4 crosses, striker and defender switch role
- Couples alternate as striker/defender and ball servers
Coaching Points
- The striker should gradually avoid looking at the ball and use his peripherical vision
- Take care of timing of elevation and of body positioning during the header
- Player should never close their eyes while they hit the ball with their head
- Arms must move high to help elevation, balance and charging, then they must be open to protect from opponent
