Series of passes for a side penetration with cross and shot at goal |
Possession, Passing, Shooting, Crossing & Finishing, Pass, Cross, Finishing, Shooting, Finish from close range, Volley shooting nearly, Triangle |
Arrange three cones (orange in the picture) in the left side area as in the picture, starting from the half-court line to the penalty area. The starting cone is the one closest to the middle of the field from where the players will start, each with a ball. Place two more cones (yellow in the picture) 1 meter/yard from the sideline, at the height of the penalty area, forming a goal about 2 meters/yards wide. Divide the players into four groups of three components each. The goalkeeper defends the goal.
Each group of players (triad), in turn, will stand on the orange cones with the player near the mid-court cone (starting cone) in possession of the ball (triads take turns in developing actions)
- On the coach's signal, player A will start running with the ball, for about 10 meters, then making a lateral pass to player B
- Player B will return the ball with one touch, on the run of teammate A (triangle)
- Player A, again with one touch, will then pass the ball to player C (high vertex)
- C will have to support B, who in the meantime will make a half-circle movement in support, circling the cone, going to receive from C
- B, having received support from C, makes a deep pass to teammate A, who will have to make a movement towards the back of the field, passing, however, through the goal formed by the yellow cones
- Received the pass, player A will have to control the ball and cross towards the center of the penalty area for the insertion of B and C who will try to shoot at goal
When the action is over, the players must retrieve the ball to get back in line waiting to start again. With each new action, the role of the players within the drill must be reversed (rotation of roles in the trios of players). At the end of the series, the drill is replayed on the opposite side (right side zone)
Phase 1
Phase 2
- Keep the roles within the drill set, specifying to the players the role to be played
- The exercise must be repeated during the whole season, so that players get used to the movements
- It is very important that wide midfielders understand that on penetration, passing through yellow cones doing a long movement will enable them to receive the ball easily
- Encourage competition
- Attention to timing
- Take care of the attack: players that attack should have the right timing and occupy different zones
